Ledwall for Rental vs. Installation: What's the Difference?

Let's explore the difference between an indoor fixed installation Ledwall and a rental Ledwall, typically used for trade shows and events.

When we talk about Ledwalls, we are referring to a technology that differs greatly depending on its use. Let's look at the difference between a fixed indoor installation Ledwall (for companies, shopping centers, conference rooms, or common areas) and a rental Ledwall, typically for trade shows and events.

Different Constructions

Ledwalls are designed according to their intended use. Those for fixed installation are built to withstand long and continuous operating periods. They often have 24/7 certified components that allow them to remain practically always on. On the other hand, the mechanics are less robust than rental Ledwalls, which must be frequently assembled and disassembled. There is also a difference in standard dimensions. Fixed installation Led modules are often in 16:9 format, while rental modules are square 50x50 cm to form screens of various sizes.

Different Mounting

Most installation Ledwalls are designed to be wall-mounted. This involves front mounting, i.e., from the front side of the screen. The back of the cabinet is often closed and screwed to the wall or a similar support structure. All wiring remains inside the cabinet and is done from the front. The same applies to the magnetic Led modules, which are mounted last, to close the screen. Furthermore, there are no handles or hooks for suspension.
The construction of rental cabinets is different; they are mainly mounted from the back. Here, everything is visible, inspectable, and interchangeable at any time. When a Front Inspection Ledwall is requested, it is because the screen must be mounted close to a back wall that prevents access from behind. In this case, the modules are extracted from the front with a magnet or a pneumatic extractor to change them or to access the cables and electronics, which are always located at the back.

Resolutions, Durability, Maintenance

Fixed installation Leds can have very fine pixel pitches, such as 1.8 or 1.5mm. Leds with these pitches are very delicate and would hardly withstand heavy rental use. Another important difference concerns maintenance. Fixed installation Leds require very little maintenance as they are not subjected to physical stress. Once installed, they have a lifespan of years, except for rare electronic problems. Rental Ledwalls, on the other hand, are continuously subject to maintenance and checks, both during assembly and after use, once returned to the warehouse. For this reason, practically all components are easily interchangeable. The electronics and Led modules, in particular, can be disassembled and completely replaced at any time during the installation.

Which one costs more?

Both in terms of unit cost (price per square meter) and overall investment, rental Leds are significantly more expensive. Not only due to the intrinsic cost (cost per square meter), but also because, in rental, the wide variety of required configurations necessitates high availability of homogeneous material. Furthermore, rental material is subject to a higher degree of wear and tear and, consequently, a shorter productive life. Installation Leds are much less expensive both in terms of constructive simplicity and overall investment, being well-defined in quantity and projected over the long term.
