At ISE, Europe’s leading trade fair for entertainment and communication technologies, the Ledwall took the lion’s share of the spotlight. Here are the trends of the future emerging among dozens of proposals from manufacturers around the world.
Customized Ledwall
Ledwalls with special shapes are not yet so common, but the future is heading in this direction. In Barcelona, we saw many relatively simple and effective custom Ledwall solutions.
The corners
They represent, along with curvatures, the most common form of customization. They have the advantage of expanding the view to multiple sides of the installation and are often used as structural elements to demarcate and separate the space. Today Led modules are offered that can form angles on all sides allowing the creation of parallelepipeds, columns or cubes of different sizes.
Curved Ledwalls
The same is true for curved Ledwalls that refine and soften curved angles. In Barcelona we saw perfect large cylinders with great impact. What makes the difference are the segmented Led modules , and at this fair we saw many of them. A new generation bendable Led module is no longer a single piece but is composed of multiple segments that make it bendable within itself. Therefore, the curves are more precise, smooth and visually interesting.
Transparent Ledwall
Although they are not entirely new, their use has not yet been fully explored. What makes them unique is their ability to become transparent, until they almost disappear, when the LEDs are off or in the presence of black parts in the image. This allows you to see beyond the screen while continuing to view the content. Faux walls, low banners even ceilings or corners, anything was seen in Barcelona as long as it was transparent and creative.
Ultrafine steps
But the trend of the moment is the race to reduce steps (pixel pitch in technical jargon, in short the distance between pixels). If we are talking about fixed installations, today Led competes with everyone from monitors to home cinema. And it will probably win because it is brighter, less bulky, versatile in shapes and configurations, and durable. Screens with 0.9 pitches were everywhere, but at one booth we saw a prototype of a 0.3 pitch. So too in rental applications we expect a drastic reduction in steps within a year or two, in line with the gradual establishment of 4k as the reference format.
So curved and angled Ledwalls, transparent or ultra-high resolution, these are the new creative solutions available to designers in the near future. Thanks to the versatility of sizes and shapes, it is already possible to design a Ledwall that fits perfectly into the available space, in any context. This is especially useful for nontraditional applications such as highly customized exhibition booths or art installations but also for creating “stand alone” objects such as cubes, columns or banners.
Or whatever else you can think of.
